SIOG 2019 Advanced Course - Admissions are now open

We are pleased to announce that the admission process for the SIOG Geriatric Oncology Advanced Course is now open. The course will be hosted at the Lorenzon Study Centre of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Treviso, Italy from June 26-29, 2019.

The SIOG Advanced Course in Geriatric Oncology is SIOG’s unique CME accredited training programme lead by international experts from the field of geriatrics as well as oncology. It is designed to provide specific skills in assessment, care pathways and therapeutic choices as well as a strong basis for assessment and a multi-dimensional approach of treatment for older patients with cancer.

This 2-phase advanced course is addressed to professionals in the management of elderly cancer patients and comprises of case-based studies, discussions and debates under the general themes of ‘geriatrics for clinical oncologists’ as well as ‘clinical oncology for geriatricians.

The oncological sessions dedicated to geriatricians will be focused on the principles of cancer treatment in the elderly. The geriatric sessions dedicated to oncologiest will be focused on the assessment of the elderly patient, with particular emphasis about polypharmacy, multimorbidity and frailty.

The course aims are:
1) to provide basic information related to cancer medicine to the geriatricians and to the application of geriatric principles to the clinical oncologists;
2) to train young medical oncologists and geriatricians to work together - these individuals will become the bridge between the oncological and geriatric teams in their own institutions.
