Project SENATOR

Development and clinical trials of a new Software ENgine for the Assessment & optimization of drug and non-drug Therapy in Older peRsons: SENATOR is an ambitious EU-FP7-funded project which focuses on optimizing pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapy for the multi-morbid older population under clinical care.

A key part of the project is design and validation of a powerful software engine called SENATOR that optimizes geriatric care using drug-based and non-drug–based therapies. In the first two years of the project members have made steady progress with design, construction and mobile testing of the software.

Phase I of the SENATOR randomized clinical trial has already begun and testing of the ADRROP ADR risk scale is ongoing in recruited patients. In parallel, researchers will also assess the economic value and efficacy of SENATOR software in comparison to current geriatric care techniques.

Project co-ordinator: Dr. Denis O’Mahony, University College Cork & Cork University Hospital, Ireland.
