EDWPOP-EuGMS Guidance on Oxygen-Dexamethasone Therapy for Diabetes
A rapid Response Action Statement from the European Diabetes Working Party for Older People (EDWPOP) and European Geriatric Medicine Society (EuGMS) - Special Interest Group on Diabetes
An international collaboration between two European organisations has led to the first guidance on both dexamethasone and oxygen therapy for older people with diabetes living in long-term care facilities. This follows an increasing need for care homes to deliver these treatments during the Covod-19 pandemic when admission to hospital is not possible or desired. The EuGMS was represented by a former EuGMS President, Professor Stefania Maggi, and the Chair of the EuGMS SIG in Diabetes, Professor Isabelle Bourdel-Marchasson. The European Diabetes Working Party for Older People (EDWPOP) was represented by its chair, Professor Alan Sinclair and Dr Ahmed Abdelhafiz, a former Chair of the BGS (British Geriatrics Society) SIG in Diabetes.
