FAR SIGHT 5 - Frailty and Resilience SIG Hot Topic

Dear Colleagues,

We are glad to invite you to the fifth meeting of FAR SIGHT - Frailty and Resilience SIG Hot Topic -

The project consists of bimonthly open online meetings with SIG members (and others Participants) to discuss relevant developments and papers related to intrinsic capacity, frailty and resilience.
The meetings are organised in a journal club format to exhaustively discuss a paper, after an introduction by one of the authors.

FAR SIGHT 5 will be held on Monday October 25th at 4pm (CEST) - 60 min -

Title - Physical Resilience in Daily Functioning Among Acutely Ill Hospitalized Older Adults: The Hospital-ADL Study - ScienceDirect

The presentation will focus on the research paper about physical resilience in daily functioning among acutely ill older adults, part of the Hospital-Associated Disability and impact on daily Life (Hospital-ADL) study. The Hospital-ADL study is a prospective multicentre cohort study aiming to unravel the mechanisms behind functional decline among acutely hospitalized older adults. The authors of this specific research paper investigated older adults' functional trajectories in response to the acute illness and subsequent hospitalization, and the association of baseline variables and dynamic variables with resistance and resilience trajectories. Among 207 acutely hospitalized older adults, daily functioning was assessed at six time points from preadmission up to three months after discharge and frailty, somatic, physical, and psychosocial factors and dynamic variables were assessed during hospital admission. The authors have used individual growth models to investigate the association of the baseline variables and within-person means levels and variability in the dynamic variables with resistance and resilience trajectories in daily functioning.

The paper will be presented by Daisy Kolk, a clinical epidemiologist and researcher at the Amsterdam UMC, location AMC, department of Geriatric medicine and member of the Hospital-ADL study group. Her PhD research focusses on the recovery potential of acutely ill older adults in physical functioning, with special interest for frailty and resilience, and rehabilitation strategies after hospitalization. Her clinical research includes quantitative and qualitative research methods, and she is trained in analysing longitudinal data and qualitative interview data.

So Join us!

Be on time, mute your microphone when you're not talking and enjoy this moment with your colleagues! We hope to engage you in discussion after the presentation, so you are stimulated to read the paper and prepare questions and your discussion points. At the beginning of the meeting we will provide some further guidance on how to organize the discussion.
