FAR SIGHT 8 - Frailty and Resilience SIG Hot Topic

Dear Colleagues,

A new year and new calendar of meetings for FAR SIGHT - Frailty and Resilience SIG Hot Topic!

We have now reached the 8th appointment of these bimonthly open online meetings with SIG members (and others Participants) to discuss relevant developments and papers related to intrinsic capacity, frailty and resilience.
The meetings are organised in a journal club format to exhaustively discuss a paper, after an introduction by one of the authors.

FAR SIGHT 8 will be held on Monday May 30th, 2022 at 4pm (CEST) – 60 min –

This time the presentation will focus on
Title - A multicomponent intervention to prevent mobility disability in frail older adults: Results from the SPRINTT randomized controlled trial

The paper will be presented by Emanuele Marzetti is a board certified Geriatrician, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Rome, Italy) and the Director of the Orthogeriatric Unit at the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario "Agostino Gemelli" IRCCS (Rome). He is also the Scientific Director of the Biogerontology Lab of the Center for Geriatric Medicine at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Rome, Italy). Dr. Marzetti has authored or co-authored over 350 scientific publications on topics related to frailty, sarcopenia, multimorbidity, and biomarkers for complex age-related conditions

Dr. Marzetti will be presenting the main findings of the SPRINTT clinical trial. The SPRINTT trial was a multicenter randomized controlled trial conducted at 16 sites across 11 European countries. Participants were 1519 community-dwelling men and women aged 70 years or older with physical frailty and sarcopenia who were randomized to a multicomponent intervention, involving physical activity with technological support and nutritional counseling, or education on healthy aging. Interventions and follow-up lasted for up to 36 months. The primary outcome was mobility disability (inability to independently walk 400 m in <15 min). Secondary outcomes presented during the seminar will be persistent mobility disability (inability to walk 400 m on two consecutive occasions) and changes from baseline to 24 and 36 months in physical performance, muscle strength, and appendicular lean mass.

So Join us!

Be on time, mute your microphone when you're not talking and enjoy this moment with your colleagues! We hope to engage you in discussion after the presentation, so you are stimulated to read the paper and prepare questions and your discussion points. At the beginning of the meeting we will provide some further guidance on how to organize the discussion.
