SIG Biology of Ageing OPEN Meeting – April 20th 2023

The EuGMS SIG on Biology of Ageing is glad to invite you to a series of monthly open meetings to present the latest and activities of the teams and members of the SIG.
Each meeting will include a presentation and time for discussion.

Topic: Caloric restriction in an emerging primate model, the grey mouse lemur (Microcebus murinus)
Presented by: Prof. Fabien Pifferi
Professor Fabien Pifferi is a member of the MECADEV lab (UMR CNRS MNHN 7179, MECADEV) since 2009 and responsible of the BIOADAPT team since 2017, he is now studying the impact of nutritional interventions on energy metabolism on cognitive and behavioral functions in non-human primate, the grey mouse lemur (Microcebus murinus). Using various nutritional interventions (calorie restriction, resveratrol supplementation and supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids), he I studying their influence on cognitive and behavioral parameters. Among these parameters, he is interested in memory abilities (spatial memory and emotional memory reference), spontaneous locomotor activityor and circadian rhythms, including the monitoring of sleep-wake rhythms by electroencephalography during aging. This work allows him to further explore the links between nutrition, energy metabolism, aging and cognition.
Please find hereafter the content of his presentation: After a short introduction and presentation of state of the art of caloric restriction studies in primates, I will present the results from our longitudinal study of the impact of caloric restriction on helthspan and lifespan in a primate model and discuss the results at the light of current knowledge in the field. The concept of caloric restriction itself will also be discussed.
