The EuGMS SIG on Biology of Ageing is glad to invite you to a series of open meetings to present the latest and activities of the teams and members of the SIG.
Each meeting will include a presentation and time for discussion.
The first meeting of 2024 will be held on Thursday January 25th @1pm (CET) – 60 min –
Topic: Is the epigenetic clock a good marker for life expectancy
Presented by: Elina Sillanpää
Elina Sillanpää is an associate professor of health promotion and Academy of Finland research fellow in Faculty of sport and health sciences, University of Jyväskylä, Finland. As. Prof. Sillanpää leads a multidisciplinary research group of ten people, which focuses on understanding genetic and lifestyle predictors of biological aging, health and functioning. The group utilizes computational and quantitative genetic methods, biobank samples and health registers as well as longitudinal cohort studies among twins. As. Prof. Sillanpää and her group have received 21 national awards for research excellence in sport sciences and sports medicine.
The lecture will focus on epigenetic clocks as markers of biological ageing, the links between lifestyles and the possibility of using clocks to predict phenotypes associated with ageing. Genetics will also be discussed as a possible confounding factor in the relationship between lifestyle and biological ageing.
