The Lithuanian Presidency: health priorities
Lithuania has taken over the EU Presidency and has proposed the following priorities:

-  Proposal for a Clinical Trials Directive (high priority)

Work will continue on the adoption of the Clinical Trials Directive, which aims at improving EU’s competitiveness in clinical research while ensuring the safety and rights of the clinical trials’ participants. The Presidency will try to reach a General Approach in the Council during the semester.

-  Proposal for a Medical Devices Directive (high priority)

Discussions on medical devices proposals have been complex and slow until now. Lithuania has confirmed that this file remains a political priority and organise extra technical meetings in order to reach a General Approach during its Presidency.

-  Proposal for a Directive on transparency regulating the prices of medical products for human use

The Lithuanian Presidency will work to progress this initiative, which aims to increase the transparency in the ways prices of medicines are set and reimbursed

-  Cross-border health threats Directive

The Presidency will work to finalize a Directive on this issue.

Finalization of the EU Public Health Programme for the period 2014-2020

This Programme still needs to be agreed by the European Parliament.

Sustainability of the health systems

The Lithuanian Presidency will work towards adopting a set of Council conclusions addressing modern, responsible and sustainable health systems in December.
