EU Commission unveils new e-Health action plan

On 7 December the Commission presented a second action plan on e-Health with the aim to promote and facilitate the use of digital solutions in health systems and to improve the quality of health care, give patients more control over their care and bring down costs. This plan will run from 2012 to 2020 and aims to improve interoperability between systems, increase awareness and skills among patients and health care professionals and put patients at the centre with initiatives related to personal health management and support research into personalised medicine. The Commission also commits to issuing a Green paper on mobile health by 2014.
