EU-wide campaign against pain

On 12 October, the European Federation of IASP (International Association for the Study of Pain) Chapters (EFIC) launched the first European Year against Pain. According to this organisation, one European citizen in five suffers from chronic pain, and this accounts for 500 million working hours lost each year. The main aim of this campaign is to present pain in all its aspects and in all its social consequences. In doing so, support for those affected can be stimulated and awareness will be raised, not only of the individual suffering but also of the social and economic relevance. The main theme for 2012-2013 is visceral pain from internal organs.
